Yanqi Lake Admission
Yanqi Lake is cradled in the rolling mountains within Huairou District, among the first to be photographed in China, and a lakeside escape from the capital. International attention was also drawn to the reservoir when it was host to the APEC Summit and the Belt and Road Forum, putting neighborhood surroundings on a grander scale. The iconic nine-tiered Yanqi Pagoda, the striking shell-shaped Sunrise Kempinski Hotel, and the sweeping mountain reflections across the water, makes it an interesting place to visit for nature-loving, family and photography lovers all year round.

What Guests Are Saying
Tourists agree that the grounds of Yanqi Lake are maintained very well, walkable loops are available and the entire lakeside area has a serene quiet ambiance. Many guests mention the attention to detail in the design of the observation decks which allow spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset reflecting back off the ocean, especially loved by the photography enthusiasts. The large pathways and numerous rest stops are ideal for families with younger ones, who enjoy the stroller-friendly environment. Conversely, there are always several times of the year when both the roads are highly congested on national holidays, and at times there is a parking shortage very close to the main entrance. Getting up early during the day or taking public transport will reduce these disadvantages significantly.

FAQ
1. Am I able to purchase tickets at the front on the day?
Tickets for the walk-in are sold at the gate, but are available to sell out on public holidays and popular weekends. Reservations are the safer way to go if made in advance via the proper Internet resource.
2. Can visitors bring their own food and drinks?
Yes. Picnicking is permitted in designated picnic areas around the lake. To protect the environment for other visitors please take your rubbish away when you leave the site.
3. Are boat rides available, and are they included in the ticket?
Several boating options — including rowing boats and electric sightseeing vessels — are available on the lake. These are ticketed separately and purchased on site.
4. Is the West Mountain Trail covered by the standard admission ticket?
The West Mountain Trail (Xishan Boardwalk) is a separate free area adjacent to the scenic zone. Note that it closes seasonally during the forest fire prevention period (roughly December to late March).
5. What other things are there to see in the area?
It is easily accessible to Mutianyu Great Wall, Hongluo Temple and Qinglong Gorge, thus Yanqi Lake is perfect for a two-day Huairou tour.
