Most of the city’s headline sights can be booked through several channels — official venue sites, big international travel platforms (Trip.com, Klook, KKday), and sometimes, on site ticket counters. That said, buying in person during national holidays or peak summer periods is a bit of a gamble, time slots often disappear, and the lines can get hours long. If your plan allows it, booking digitally days, or even weeks in advance is the smarter move. Not only is it much easier to advance book than a gate-to-gate purchase but, generally, lower prices, book-and-ride discounts, or platform-only promotions are as well available. Well-known sites such as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace require visitors to register with a real name and set a pre-determined visit time. If booking ahead is possible, and a prime consideration for these places, make sure you do so at least three to seven days ahead.
